I want to write a post about being sick.

No, that is not true, mostly the internal 5 year old just really wants to share with everyone the gross-ness that is the yellow mucus my eye is making.

The external grown up is befuddled at how a sore throat (which isn't strep, so says Kaiser) spread to her eye. The ear-ache makes sense as the Eustachian Tube is one of the few things I remember from some childhood anatomy class.

Though only two days of the goopy eye, it has been a full week for the sore throat and both the internal 5 year old and the external grown up are ready to be done with the salt gargles, medicine head, excessive naps, and general isolation.

did you do something for your eye? like eyewashes? did Kaiser hear about the eye as well, or only the throat? eye goo! oh my! how fascinating!

My inner 5 yr old / adult loves hearing about this stuff. Is it better now? what if it was non-strep, but bacterial, and you innoculated your frickin eye? ew/awesome! (ewsome?)

*hugs from afar*

Ugh, no fun. I hope you're feeling better.

FWIW, I'm fairly sure there are also connections between the eye and the nasal sinuses, just not with fancy well-known names. Also, sore throat -> bugs on hands -> touching eyes would do it. (Says someone who got conjunctivitis twice one spring, both times alongside a nasty sinusitis. That was not a fun spring.)

The past few times I've had a sinus "thing" as an adult, my eye has also gotten into the act. My doc called it viral conjunctivitis. (The kind everyone knows as pinkeye is bacterial.) Not much to be done about it, but at least for me, it's a sign that I'm pretty darned sick and need to rest to fight it off.

Not all that helpful, I think... sorry!
