My cousin (once removed) sent my parents a "Save the Date" postcard with a studio-portrait style picture of her and her fiance: They are in casual clothes, looking directly at the camera but not really smiling, and sitting next to each other with their bodies slightly in profile. She is in front of him and his arm around her with his hand resting on her shoulder.

On that hand is a black leather glove. It doesn't coordinate with what they are wearing, It is the closest thing to the camera, and is the only true black object in the picture.

I had thought my mom was being goofy when she emailed me telling me that the picture was weird and wondering what a black glove meant (me: "That his hands are cold?"), but no, the picture is downright twitch inducing. The lack of sincere smiles is just kinda creepy, but the glove pushes it over the top. I don't know if there is any formal symbolism, but it did provoke a "Wow, he is one of those Asshole Doms"*, so I can totally understand my mom thinking it was an obvious fetish flag.


*(alas, I can't find the article about self proclaimed "True Tops" who prey on subs who are new to the scene and identity.)
